  Day-8 Chennai to Bangalore

Knowing the road from Chennai to Bangalore is just superb, we take it easy and after a leisurely & sumptuous breakfast at my brothers home, we head out at about 10:45am. Ofcourse, its heavy traffic as usual in the city, including the occasional cows on the road etc but once we touch the highway the traffic eases a bit.

These stubborn guys know well that motorists will make their way around them..

We cross the Hyundai car plant and then pass by the monument erected in memory of one of the earliest architects of India’s ascent to the global stage, our late Prime Minister Rajiv Ghandhi, who was assassinated at that spot many years ago.

Coming back to the present, we take some pictures and continue. The wide open roads with scarce traffic are all too enticing & we are cruising mostly at 120-130 kph. A few SUVs feel ‘threatened’ but we are in no mood to get into a race and allow them to pass. We also get a rare chance to see a few buffaloes using the zebra crossing to cross the road!!! Wished on our highways some of the two legged ones also learn to do that…

One round of applause for buffaloes please - for using the pedestrian crossing!

Short video clips of our ride

Some distance after the city of Vellore, we halt for lunch at a nice restaurant Deepam Motel Highway and enjoy one of the last fixed plate meals of this trip. Yummy food but although price is reasonable it is getting costlier than Chennai, after all we are closing in towards Bangalore where everything gets expensive!

At the town of Krishnagiri, we take right merging with National Highway 7 & again the 4-lane roads are a bliss and we are now closing in on towards our home stretch continue our wonderful ride heading towards the town of Hosur.

This bike sure has space for one more on the tank!

On one of the intersections, I honk, but no sound…well it seems my horn has packed up! No wonder it has been working overtime on the Indian peninsula trip & I don’t think the germans had originally designed it for such a marathon use!!! Although we are at the fag end of our trip, a trip is never complete till you reach your driveway, and horn being a very essential part of any moving object on Indian roads (with or without wheels!), I stopped & checked and it seems it was a loose connection as a part of my tankbag strap was touching it. Fixed it and happy that I have my ‘safety-arsenal on Indian roads’ back to 100%, we continue. We pass Hosur town, the new elevated flyover, Silkboard flyover and as we are entering the wonderful city of Bangalore the traffic is starting to get heavier (welcome to the hussble-buzzle, we are in the IT capital of India already!).

The all too familiar roads & traffic in Bangalore city

We ride along the inner ring road and finally arrive at our home at 5:00pm, where our kids Adil & Amal are ecstatic to see us. We too have been missing them for so many days.

Don’t the smiling faces say it all

The trusty, adorable, darling of our ride taking some well-deserved rest. She definitely needs a bath….

Hooray, we have successfully covered 2500 kms of fun filled motorcycling adventure in the past 8 days without any incident or breakdowns. Thanks again to the almighty for letting us fulfill yet another dream ride. Also my personal appreciation to my wife for her unfailing support, encouragement & whole-hearted involvement in the trip. And three cheers to one of the main entertainers on our trip- My sweet & trusty ‘Red Ruby’- the R1200GS. And sure, of all the bikes I have owned, she now has a very special place in my heart.

As much as we enjoyed traversing thru incredible south India, it was an equal pleasure sharing the ride with all of you and hope you enjoyed it.

Ride safe
Haroon & Farzana
