Day-4 May 19

Mostar(Bosnia & Herzegovina) to Kotor (Montenegro)

After a nice & relaxed night at the Pansion Villa Nadine another beautiful sunny day beckoned us. Enjoy a lovely breakfast over a friendly chat with our hosts about the local history and troubled times the country went thru etc,

We load up the bike and leave Mostar in a southward direction on the E73 highway stopping enroute for a quick refueling. A few kms ahead, we take a small detour to the left towards the village town of Blagaj that is located on south-eastern region of Mostar basin.

Blagaj is home to 'Tekija' (pronounced Tekiya) house located at the spring of the Buna river. The house built by the ottomans in 1520 with the message “Love creatures for the sake of creator” is well preserved with lot of wood work.

The Tekija complex houses a couple of tombs, prayer rooms, guest rooms, the kitchen, the hammam, the courtyard etc. It is set in a very tranquil atmosphere. We meet an elderly American couple whom we had bumped into last evening at the Mostar bridge and for a change its so refreshing to converse in English with someone without the use of your arms, face expressions & mimic sounds...

After spending some time here, we start off on the main journey in a south easterly direction passing  thru Pocitelj, Radimlja and stopping for lunch at Stolac. From here we turn left and continue on some mountainous roads.

Soon we cross the international border from Bosnia and enter Montenegro. After the crossing, we ride for several kilometers together with no sign of civilization, but we encounter many snakes crossing the roads at their leisure & convenience unmindful of our passing motorcycle. Some of them we learn have not been so lucky in their jay walking spree as they lay flattened by probably the Pirelli or Dunlop tire of some passing car. Goes without saying, my assistant was too terrified to click any pics.....

After some more kms at a distance we catch a glimpse of a large blue water body. That’s the Kotor bay, but a look at the map & GPS says we still have some distance to cover till our destination. Nevertheless, we have an absolutely brilliant ride sailing down the mountain edge with the huge open expanse of the bay on the right.

Soon we are riding hugging the coast for several kms following the road pattern as it snakes its way. Finally arrive into the beautiful & serene bay of Kotor.

We check into our B&B in Kotor, unload our luggage cases and other stuff into the accommodation and have a quick wash, freshening up.

We  then head into town center spending the evening visiting the 'old town' of Kotor, at the entrance to which we see the parking lot full of big shiny Harleys, BMWs, Cruisers, Maxi-scooters etc and instantly there is a friendly biker acknowledgement wave.

After the old town experience we round off dinner with a mouth watering feast of authentic Italian pizza. Retire for the night at our bayside B&B, Apartments Jokovic.
