Day-5 May 20

Kotor (Montenegro) to Dubrovnik (Croatia)

We wake up early in the morning and go for a stroll along the quaint waterfront of the  bay on foot. The peace and tranquility was absolutely refreshing to our mind & soul.

After breakfast on our room balcony, we say our goodbye to the serene surroundings of Kotor and ride on at a relaxed pace along the bay till Lepetane where we get on a ferry boat crossing that takes us, our bike, a few buses and cars across the bay to the other end at Kamenari.

After getting off the ferry, from there we rode thru small towns of Zelenika, Herceg Novi, Igalo  getting on the main highway E65 and reaching the international border leaving Montenegro and entering back into Croatia.

It takes a while here as we have a tour bus ahead in the line of vehicles whose passengers have all been offloaded and the guards are doing a complete strip search of the bus for whatever reason…..Anyway being a cloudy day we are spared the fury of the sun on us. Two serious looking Austrian riders on their cruisers are just ahead of us in the line and they seem to be lost in their own discussion of their ride probably. While the bus is still there, we all get our turns of stamping our passports and ride across into Croatia.

From the border it was another beautiful ride where lush green forest scenery takes over with a windy well paved 2-lane beauty of a road that sees an occasional oncoming car or bike and this route finally leads us onto another ribbon of tarmac that has a steep mountain on the right and the beautiful blue waters of the Adriatic Sea on our left and at a distance the all too familiar picture postcard scene of the old city of Dubrovnik with its terra-cotta tiled rooftops is coming into view.

We soon pull into a scenic look out for a panoramic view of Dubrovnik at a distance. After that we make our way into the bustling city of Dubrovnik which is nicknamed the "Pearl of the Adriatic".

Checking into our B&B and after gulping down a quick lunch at a nearby restaurant we take a long walk along the coastal street towards the UNESCO World Heritage walled city of Dubrovnik.

Inspite of the damage inflicted on this site during the armed conflict in the 1990s, this stunningly intact walled city with its narrow lanes and stone buildings has been restored beautifully and takes us back to its glorious past. We also opt for the optional walking tour along the long perimeter wall of the city which gives us some fantastic rooftop views.

Europe is incomplete without its Ice Creams! Hence we also feast on some mouth watering ice cream in the walled city.....

After our brief rendezvous with history and peek into ancient times we head back to our accommodation. With a bakery within our B&B complex churning out an array of mouthwatering oven fresh, breads, pies & pizza, we pick up some of those wonderful stuff and end the day having dinner at our terrace overlooking the calm & beautiful Adriatic sea with a cool breeze kissing our faces.
